Going-to-the-Sun Road Spring Status

Going-to-the-Sun Road is open to Avalanche Creek on the west side of the park. On the east side, the road is open to Jackson Glacier Overlook. Travel on open sections of the road may change due to spring weather conditions. Visitors should check road conditions before their arrival.

Many off road capable vehicles are becoming stuck in soft sand between Castle Creek and Crossing One. Driving on the Medano Pass Primitive Road in this area is not advised.

Stage 2 fire restrictions in effect

No setting, building, maintaining, attending, or using open fires of any kind in the park. This includes campfires and charcoal fires in Watchman Campground, South Campground, and picnic areas in Zion Canyon. Stoves fueled by petroleum or liquid propane gas are allowed. Smoking is allowed only in non-vegetated areas.

Elk with Calves are Extremely Dangerous

Be alert, especially this time of year around Mammoth Hot Springs. Elk calves may be hidden close to buildings, under or next to vehicles, and around blind corners. You must remain at least 25 yards from all wildlife. If an elk charges, retreat!

Canyonlands NP

Conditions and Construction Affecting Cataract Canyon Takeouts

Hite Ramp is closed. The primitive, dirt take-out at North Wash is undergoing construction this spring which might cause delays of up to 5 hours. Boaters are advised to use the foot trail past Highway 95 for passenger & gear drop-off (steep incline), continue on to Bullfrog, or plan their take-out when construction is not active: (Friday–Sunday or before 7am / after 6pm Monday–Thursday).

Speed Limits are Much Lower Inside Park than Surrounding Highways

Speed limits for the park include 30 MPH near the park boundary and Great Sand Dunes Sign, and as low as 10 MPH near the Headquarters and Entrance Station. Speed limits are in place to protect park visitors, pedestrians, and wildlife in the park. Please drive carefully and responsibly.

Status of Trail Ridge Road

Trail Ridge Road (U.S. Hwy 34 inside Rocky Mountain National Park) is open to through travel. Timed Entry Reservations are required for Trail Ridge Road from 9 am to 2 pm. Updates are available on the recorded Trail Ridge Road Status Line at 970-586-1222. Updates are also available on the RMNP webpage and the official RMNP social media pages.

Road Construction

Far View Sites and Cedar Tree Tower are closed for road improvements. Road work along the first four miles of the park road from the entrance station will begin in early summer. Delays of up to 30 minutes are possible - please check the park map before your visit. Wetherill Mesa Road has compacted gravel for 30 feet; motorcycles should take extra caution on this road.

The air compressor and tire filling station at the Amphitheater Parking Area is OPEN for the Season. It is still recommended that vehicle operators using the Medano Pass Primitive 4WD Road be prepared with their own portable air compressor before deflating tires in the area.

Expect a single lane of traffic with up to 15-minute delays, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from April 1 through late October 2026. Oversized/overweight vehicles (8'6"+ wide, 75'+ long, 80,000 lbs+ gross vehicle weight) will not be able to cross the bridge during this time.

Beginning June 7, 2026, the park will enforce existing size and weight limits on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway. Although an entrance pass is required to enter Yellowstone National Park, vehicle reservations are not needed. You are encouraged to purchase an entrance pass before arriving, but you may also purchase passes at any entrance station upon arrival.

Zion has limited parking space. Park only in designated stalls. Vehicles parked outside of designated stalls are subject to citation and may be towed. Once all designated parking stalls in Zion are full, visitors should park in Springdale.
